If you don’t want the whole world to read about it don’t Tweet it, post it on Facebook or U-Tube, EMAIL it.

Respect the intelligence and privacy of your site’s customers and users. With all the identity theft, invasion of privacy by both governmental and private entities, malevolent and unethical sales of users private information not to mention lax security and stupidity; You better have a darn good reason and be able to communicate why you are asking someone to give you their personal information.

The preceding ideas are relatively current philosophical concepts. The following viewpoints were developed during a previous century but for the most part still apply.

Good business implies everyone involved is benefitting from the transaction.

Even if a website is designed and managed properly, success is dependent upon:

  • Being the cheapest place to get the widget.
  • Being the only place to get the widget.
  • By adding value to the product through service or other factors allows it to compete with the aforementioned factors.

A website is supposed to give you a return on your investment through:

  • Improving business efficiency.
  • A working combination of all the above factors.

Before you decide to build some exotic and usually expensive web feature, make sure your potential customers will be able to view it and use it.

If there are data intensive features on your site, let the viewer choose to hear, see or experience them. Don't force it on them.

Most users do not change their default browser settings, download and install plugins, update software or protect their systems from viruses.
